ONE DC Chapter Celebrates Season of Giving at Annual Holiday Event

ONE's largest chapter got together this week for some holiday cheer and merriment at the W Washington, D.C. for a festive event, Remix Your Holiday. This annual event is a way for members to get together to celebrate the season and all that the chapter has accomplished over the last year. This year, members from partner Employee/Business Resource Groups, including Ernst & Young, KPMG, PNC Bank, Booz Allen Hamilton, Living by Design DC, and Merrill Lynch, were invited to join members of ONE.

"We decided to mix things up a bit this year and extend an invitation to local companies that have groups similar to ours that we work with throughout the year," says ONE Council Secretary, Christian Mullins. "It just seemed like a great way to thank them for being great partners and expand our impact on a local organization."

That local organization is Casa Ruby. As the event planning was underway, it was suggested to also take this opportunity to give back to a worthy organization. During the registration process, attendees were asked if they would be willing to donate to Casa Ruby, where 100% of those proceeds went directly to the donation. Additionally, the event's host, the W Washington, D.C., created a specialty cocktail called ONE Love and 20% of the sales of this beverage from the night were included in the donation. Overall, the evening's efforts raised over $700.00 for Casa Ruby.

"Every donation, big or small, helps keep us open 7 days a week so that we may continue to serve very vulnerable populations here in DC, which is especially important during the winter when hypothermia is a major concern," says Eve Howe, Event Manager at Casa Ruby.

Casa Ruby is based in Washington, D.C. and is the only bilingual multicultural LGBT organization providing life-saving services and programs to the most vulnerable in the LGBT community. Several members and clients from Casa Ruby joined ONE for the festivities and were able to answer any questions that attendees had about their efforts.

Casa Ruby accepts online donations for anyone wanting to help in their efforts.
